VANEK NEWS UPDATE (May 20, 2007) ---Well the season is over just short of the championship, but Thomas has had an unbelievable season and well on his way to being an NHL superstar - Most goals on the highest scoring team in the NHL and best plus minus in the NHL. And the best is yet to come!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (May 11, 2007) --- Bummer! Buffalo got smoked 5-2 by Ottawa in game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Vanek has an assist, but the guys just didn't have a good night. Looks for them to get back on track on Saturday. There's no way they're goin' down 0-2!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (May 7, 2007) --- Wooooo hooooo! Vanek and the Sabres beat the Rangers yesterday to take the series in 6. Now it's time to take down Ottawa in the Eastern Conference Finals. One step closer. One team, one goal. Stanley Cup!!!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (May 5, 2007) --- Yeah baby! Vanek and the boyz pulled out a mini miracle on ice by knocking off the Rangers 2-1 in OT. Thomas had an assist in this thriller. Buffalo needs just one more win to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Here we go!!!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (April 29, 2007) --- They got robbed! A controversial video replay and resulting no goal judgment helped the Rangers knock of the Sabres 2-1 last night. That evens up the series at 2-2. Vanek had plenty of ice time, but no goals or assists. C'mon Thomas, lead your team back to victory Thursday night!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (April 29, 2007) --- Bummer! Vanek and the Sabres came up just short (2-1) in a double-overtime marathon vs. the NY Rangers. Thomas almost had another game winner in the first OT. Look for Buffalo to circle the wagons in game 4.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (April 25, 2007) --- Boom goes the dynamite! Vanek scored not once but twice in Buffalo's game 1 matchup versus New York. The Sabres showed their team speed as they outskated the Rangers 5-2. Look for Thomas and friends to continue their winning ways in game 2 Friday night.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (April 17, 2007) --- Vanek shoots and scores! Thomas tallied his first goal of the post-season last night as the Sabres knocked off the Islanders 3-2. The home ice advantage shifts back in Buffalo's favor. Congrats to Thomas and the boys. Keep goin'!!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (April 8, 2007) --- 43!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go Thomas! Vanek finished the regular season off with another goal and an assist. What a great sophomore run. He also took honors for best plus/minus rating in the entire league. Now it's time for the #1 seed Sabres to show the world they are for real by going deep in the playoffs. Stanley Cup baby!!!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (April 6, 2007) --- 42!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah baby! Vanek got his 41st and 42nd goals of the season and an assist last night. He again was the #1 star. Just two games left in the season for the Sabres before the playoffs. How many goals will he finish with? Log on to the fan message board to cast your vote!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (April 3, 2007) --- 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes! Vanek got his 40th goal of the season and an assist as the Sabres knocked off the Penguins 4-1. Congrats to Thomas! Just 3 more regular season games and then it's off to the playoffs. Whooooooo hooooooo!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (March 11, 2007) --- Vanek got an assist last night, but his Sabres fell 3-2 to the Devils in an important East matchup. Thomas has been pretty quiet of late. Perhaps he can get it going when he and the boys meet "Sid the Kid" in Pittsburg on Tuesday.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (March 10, 2007) --- Yikes! We obviously jinxed Vanek and the Sabres. Minnesota beat up on Buffalo last night winning 5-1. Thomas struggled to get anything going and saw his plus/minus rating go down 3. Bummer! Look for the boys to get back on track tonight as they host New Jersey.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (March 9, 2007) --- Vanek has been shut out of the scoring column the last two games. Consider that the calm before the storm. Tonight Thomas and his Sabres take on the Minnesota Wild in Buffalo. The Wild have been hot on the road of late. Look for that to change as Thomas puts on a show in front of his friends from the Midwest. Prediction: Vanek 2, Wild 1.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (March 2, 2007) --- Vanek tallied another 2 goals tonight as his Sabres outscored the Canadiens 8-5. Thomas was +3 for the night, bringing his total to +38 for the season. VANEK NEWS UPDATE (February 24, 2007) --- Vanek notched his 32nd goal and an assist, but his Sabres ended up on the wrong end of a 6-5 score against Ottawa. While there was some fighting tonight, it was quite a bit milder than Thursday night's brawl.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (February 22, 2007) --- Boom! Vanek and the Sabres socked it to the Senators in a wild 6-5 shootout thriller. Thomas scored his 30th and 31st goals of the season in the second period. After Chris Drury got blindsided, fights broke out everywhere-- all 12 players on the ice got involved. What a night! VANEK NEWS UPDATE (February 20, 2007) --- Vanek's points scoring steak came to an end tonight. However, he helped the Sabres beat up the Flyers 6-3. Thomas also went up a notch on his +/- rating to +31, keeping his overall ranking of 3rd in the NHL intact.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (February 17, 2007) --- Vanek extended his points scoring streak Thursday with an assist during Buffalo's 2-1 OT win over Edmonton. Watch tonight to see if Thomas can keep it going as the Sabres (minus a few injured players) face off against the Boston Bruins.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (February 10, 2007) --- Vanek keeps both streaks alive! Thomas scored in his 3rd straight game to help the Sabres extinguish the Flames tonight and extend their 5 game home winning streak.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (February 8, 2007) --- Vanek is blowin' up! Last night he tallied 2 goals, including the game winner, to lead the Sabres to a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (February 6, 2007) --- Tonight #26 got his 26th goal of the season, to go along with his 26 assists and +/- rating of 26, as the Sabres edged the Thrashers 4-3 in a shootout. It only took Vanek 55 games this year to exceed last season's number. Will he reach 40?!
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (February 4, 2007) --- Zach Parise (17th pick in 2003 draft) got the best of his old WCHA foe Vanek (5th pick in '03) last night as the Devils knocked off the Sabres 3-2. VANEK NEWS UPDATE (December 29, 2004) --- Hey, hey, hey! Vanek's skills are starting to shine! He has 22 points (14 goals, 8 assists) through 29 games. He is leading all AHL rookies in goals scored and is second to former UND star Zach Parise in rookie points.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (November 23, 2004) --- The NHL is still locked out, but Vanek is playing for Buffalo's AHL team, the Rochester Americans. Through 15 games he has 4 goals and 2 assists, with a +/- of -3. While those aren't all-star numbers yet, look for Thomas to continue to improve his game.
VANEK NEWS UPDATE (September 3, 2004) --- BIG NEWS!!! Thomas Vanek has decided to forgo his final two years at the University of Minnesota to lace up his skates for the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL. Specifics of Vanek's professional contract have not been released; however, sources indicate that he received a million dollars as a signing bonus and will likely receive a little over a million dollars a year for three years. So that solves the lingering question of what Vanek will do. Now it's time for the NHL to figure if they're going to play this season.
